I started installing MVC 4 RC using platform and this one big ...

1. After 6 hours it is still not installed

2. I had 10 GB free space on my disk and during installation it in now 0. (how 32 MB product can take 10 GB of disk?)

I pressed cancel and have HFIDD7C.tmp.html file in temp folder which is groving currently over 10GB. This is ridicullus. My visual studio 2010 folder is 4 times smaller, so even with all files copy it shouldn't take 10 GB.

Even log file:

KB2581019_20120815_122050669-Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional - ENU-MSP1.txt has almost 5GB? Are you serious?

3. My system is behaving very bad.

4. I cannot work, because installation is still in progress.

5. It installing SP1 for visual studio 2010 which is alredy installed.

I've asked our setup expert Jacques to take a look at this and try to help you out. This is of course definitely not the intended behavior! There's a Visual Studio patch that MVC installs that is the most likely problem here, but we might need some log files from you to figure out the details and how to fix it.

There are some known issues when installing SP1 or patches for SP1. See

If you have any VS-related shortcuts, unpin them, and then try installing MVC 4 again.

If that doesn't resolve your problem you can run the Collect tool ( This will grab all the installation log files from %temp% and create a .cab file. You will probably need to free up disk space, since the tool is intended to gather as much information as possible (CBS logs, .NET framework install logs, VS install log, etc.)

Once you have the log file, we can make a plan for you to send it to us. Though, judging from your post, it seems that KB2581019_20120815_122050669-Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional - ENU-MSP1.txt is the one we'd be most interested to see. This particular patch is for VS2010 SP1 and fixes a problem with verifying signatures of VSIX files that have had their certificates renewed. The patch only affects one DLL and one EXE, so the log should not be this large.
